The natural world has always been a great inspiration to artists and at Pulp Riot Australia hairdressers are the artist. We challenged eight Pulp Riot Artists to create hair art inspired by Australian landscapes. The art they have produced has been drawn from unique landscapes across Australia and brought to life by the full range of Pulp Riot Colour. From our Direct Dyes, to our permanent hair colour #Faction8, and the new Liquid Demi range.
Today we're taking you to the Daintree Rainforest in Northern Queensland. At around 1,200 square kilometres, the Daintree is a part of the largest continuous area of tropical rainforest on the Australian continent. Read below to see how Kate brought this to life through hair colour.
Tell us about yourself, career and professional interests.
I am extremely passionate about hair and creating an experience for all of my clients. I have been hairdressing for 18 years now and love creating all looks from balayage to blonde to rainbow.
How did you feel about the creative approach to hair colour based on a landmark? More specifically the Daintree Rainforest in QLD?
I really enjoyed working on my landmark as greens and blues are clearly a favourite of mine 🤣
Tell us about your hair colouring approach to the look and your vision for it. Please provide as much detail on formulation and technique.
I used every blue and yellow in the Pulp Riot range to create this look. It may be a little hard to see but there are three different blues and three different greens in this look.
Blue 1 : NIGHTFALL + TRAGIC + AQUATIC
Blue 2: TRAGIC + BLUE MUSE + DECOY
Blue 3: BLUE MUSE + DECOY
Green 1: LEMON + SATTIRE + NIGHTFALL +NOIR
Green 2 : LEMON + AQUATIC
Green 3 : LEMON + FIREFLY + BLUE MUSE
I decided to utilise the very popular money piece or e-girl front piece and place the three blues in a colour melt through there. I really wanted green to be the main colour but place the blue in a way that it would flow and mimic the winding waters of the Daintree. I also didn't want to just have one green as rainforests are full of so many shades.
Tell us about your client that you picked for this hair look? Why did you choose her? How did she feel about the hair look?
I chose my niece for this look as she has been a model for me many times and really enjoys the whole experience. She also has the perfect length and texture for this particular creation.
What do you love most about Pulp Riot products?
What's not to love about Pulp Riot!? I adore the texture, smell and most of all the punch of colours that the brand has consistently delivered over my years of using them.
What Pulp Riot shade and colour family would you love to colour with next?
I really would love to use more of the yellow range as I find something so beautiful and alluring to a full head of gorgeous marigold locks.
What hair trends are you loving right now?
I am really loving the chunky blocks of colour that we are seeing come through again.
