Australian Icons Series: Kelly William's Jervis Bay Inspired Hair Look

Artist: Kelly Williams | Model: Michelle Kordish

The natural world has always been a great inspiration to artists and at Pulp Riot Australia hairdressers are the artist. We challenged eight Pulp Riot Artists to create hair art inspired by Australian landscapes. The art they have produced has been drawn from unique landscapes across Australia and brought to life by the full range of Pulp Riot Colour. From our Direct Dyes, to our permanent hair colour #Faction8, and the new Liquid Demi range.

Today we're taking you to the Jervis Bay located on the south coast of New South Wales. Covering 102-square-kilometre, Jervis Bay is said to possess the whitest sand in the world! Read below to see how Kelly brought this to life through hair colour.

Tell us about yourself, career and professional interests.

I have owned my salon for 10 years and been hairdressing for over double that - I still love everything about our industry! At my salon KOR Hairdressing, we have a super strong focus on colour and especially blondes. It’s something I love creating and has grown from there. I'm super lucky to have an amazing team of stylists who share my passion for colour and blondes. I’m also fortunate to be able split my time between working a few hours on the salon floor and spending time with my little girl.

How did you feel about the creative approach to hair colour based on a landmark? More specifically the Jervis Bay in NSW?

I was super excited to do this. Right in my element in my element - blonde hair colour!

Tell us about your hair colouring approach to the look and your vision for it. Please provide as much detail on formulation and technique.

We had an 8 week level 4 regrowth to begin with and here’s what I did to bring my vision to life:

  1. I first started with Lightener + 20vol at a 1:2 ratio which processed for 30 minutes. I also wanted to clean out the ends which was done with Lightener + 6vol again at 1:2 and processed all for another 30mins.
  2. The hair was then rinsed, shampooed twice using Barcelona Toning Shampoo and fully dried.
  3. As a salon we work as collective. We used one of the teams favourite formulas applied to dry hair roots to ends for 20 minutes:

Tell us about your client that you picked for this hair look? Why did you choose her? How did she feel about the hair look?

Michelle is a long-standing client of ours who is super fun and lets me do as I want. She has 100% trust that her blonde will always be amazing. She absolutely LOVED the look we created.

What do you love most about Pulp Riot products?

I love the scope there is to create any shade you want that’s reliable and leaves hair healthy and beautiful.

What Pulp Riot shade and colour family would you love to colour with next?

I've been drawn to coppers and can't stop thinking of all the peachy tones that I could create!

What hair trends are you loving right now?

Just loving the fact people are willing to have fun with their colour!
